Global Engagement

Our chancellor's vision is to have the university engaged in the world around us. Our research centers and institutes regularly engage in discussions and actions in areas of public policy, disaster response, peace, and civil discourse, and our students and faculty are involved in worldwide outreach.
Research

Creativity and innovation are at the center of this nationally recognized public research university. Our urban location allows students, faculty, and staff to actively engage with, serve, and meet the needs of urban populations in gerontology, public policy, environmental sciences, and other areas.
Service

UMass Boston dedicates itself to understanding and improving the environment and the well being of citizens of the greater Boston community and beyond, such as through public policy analysis and applied problem solving in areas like environmental quality, city planning, tax policy, and education.
Teaching

UMass Boston is a public research university with a teaching soul. With a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students easily interact with professors because most teaching occurs in small class sizes. Ninety-three percent of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their fields.

The Democracy Debates ›

Debaters from academia, the media, and politics will take part in two national democracy debates hosted by the Center for Civil Discourse at the McCormack Graduate School. The debates will focus on timely and controversial issues.
