  • Why do the rich get richer while the poor get poorer?
  • How do large international firms affect wages, technology and economic development?
  • Do women really earn less than men?
  • What caused the Great Recession?

The study of economics attempts to answer these questions and many more. The economics department at the University of Massachusetts Boston offers an undergraduate major and minor, and beginning in 2012 will offer a five year BA/MA, and a MA in Applied Economics.
