Sustainability
UMass Boston has a historically strong commitment to environmental sustainability. It is unique in being the only public university in Massachusetts to sign the international Talloires Declaration committing to environmental sustainability in campus operations and academia. In 2007, UMass Boston became part of the Leadership Circle of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment. UMass Boston joins this national effort to reduce its ecological footprint and to accelerate the research, operational and educational efforts of higher education to equip society for a sustainable future. The campus’ Climate Action Plan can be found here. UMass Boston is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
The campus' sustainability program, UMBe Green, encompasses four areas in working towards sustainability campuswide and beyond:

- Practice
UMass Boston sustainability efforts have been awarded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts "University Sustainability Award", the Massachusetts ECO-Award for Excellence in Commuting Options, and recently hosted its second Green Careers Forum. UMass Boston is one of Princeton Review's 322 greenest colleges nationwide.
